So often, our lives are not made meaningful by grand and heroic gestures, but in the small and simple ways we care for those around us, build community, and lift where we stand. But before he was ever doing business, he was a brother. His little brother, Walter, was badly injured in a car accident as a teenager, resulting in severe brain trauma. This brain injury changed the course of his brother's life, and he would eventually pass from complications of his injury. Matt's mother was Walter's champion and took on the responsibility of his care while managing her many responsibilities. She did not have many resources available to support her in his care. In creating Liberty Living, Matt strives to provide that support she so badly needed to other families and care for our clients like our own family. Matt is a father of 5 and the best grandpa ever to 4 grandchildren. ::figure[src="/uploads/1dee6826-e403-4404-a7ca-0f4a7aeb57c4.png" alt="Matt Johnson - Owner of Liberty Living"] --- ### Ella Frischknecht — Director Ella runs the day-to-day operations at Liberty Living! Ella and Matt have worked together officially for many years, and unofficially long before that. Ella is Matt's daughter! They love working together. Ella studied psychology at BYU and is passionate about understanding and providing the best care for our clients. Her favorite part of this work is the personal relationships she gets to build with our clients — they are pretty much her favorite people. ::figure[src="/uploads/example-path-to-ella-photo.png" alt="Ella Frischknecht - Director of Liberty Living"] ::figure[src="/uploads/2135de0a-3909-4f39-adf0-27f346c636d3.png" alt="Additional photo of Ella Frischknecht - Director of Liberty Living"] --- ::page[route="/services" title="What We Do"] # What We Do Liberty Living provides two primary services, each designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with disabilities in Utah. ::columns ### Host Homes {icon=home} A person with a disability lives with a host person or family. Valdez" role="Host Home Provider"] Partnering with Liberty Living as our provider has never felt like a job or an obligation. From the very beginning, their approach has been to make us feel like an extension of their family. The organization's dedication and sincere commitment to helping others have continually impressed us. :: ::testimonial[author="S. Armenta" role="Host Home Provider"] Being a host home has been one of the most rewarding experiences for our entire family. My husband, our kids, and I truly love being able to open our home and our heart to adults with disabilities, helping them work towards their goals while surrounding them with genuine love, patience, and support. Walking alongside them as we model daily living skills, independence and celebrate every milestone, big or small! It has been incredibly meaningful. This journey has not only allowed us to make a positive impact on someone else's life but it has also changed our lives for the better by teaching our children compassion, strengthening our bond, and reminding us every day of the power of kindness and human connection. One of the best decisions we've ever made. :: ::testimonial[author="M. Valdez" role="Host Home Provider"] Sharing our home with Eugene has been far more than a service; it has truly made us feel like family. Initially, the prospect of welcoming another person into our lives was neither planned nor expected. However, this unanticipated addition has brought a wealth of positive experiences to our household. Providing support to another human being, especially someone who might not have had these opportunities otherwise, has been both amazing and deeply fulfilling. The sense of purpose we gain from extending our help is something we cherish each day. We are genuinely grateful for the blessing this experience has brought into our lives. :: ::gallery ![Marathon support — Go Merissa!](https://wave.site/uploads/d1b73724-0377-4ff8-9eae-5e8a9c32af0d.jpg) Supporting Merissa at the marathon ![Group at half marathon event](https://wave.site/uploads/4a757566-a8e2-4d8a-b4e1-aa9c53c7237f.jpg) Half marathon crew ![Halloween themed run](https://wave.site/uploads/d44c844f-50d1-448a-96bc-54578d292a67.jpg) Halloween run fun :: ::cta[label="Apply to Be a Host Home" href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfXdxDYHEgO8oFGQ0Uw74x6E6VjCRRj5JnlntTyb6PuyLIX3Q/viewform?usp=publish-editor" primary=true] :: ::page[route="/join" title="Join the Team"] # Join the Team Interested in making a difference? Host home providers receive a monthly stipend of $1,700 to $4,000 depending on the individual's level of need and support requirements. You may also receive a separate room and board payment to cover groceries and household supplies. This income is typically not taxable under IRS guidelines for qualified care payments. We recommend consulting a tax professional for your specific situation. ### What kind of support does Liberty Living provide? We are with you every step of the way. You'll have 24-hour emergency support, monthly check-in visits, and access to clinical and behavioral support resources. We handle the paperwork, certifications, and connect you with all required training. You're never on your own. ### What disabilities do the individuals have? We serve adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, acquired brain injuries, and other developmental conditions. Every individual is unique. Some are highly independent and primarily need a stable home, while others need more active daily assistance. ### How are individuals matched with host families? Matching is a thoughtful, careful process. We interview both you and the individual about lifestyle, hobbies, household routines, and preferences. Both sides can meet, do trial visits, and decide if it's a good fit before any commitment is made. Our goal is lasting, meaningful placements. Some of our host families have been together for years. ### Can I keep my regular job? Absolutely. Host home providers are expected to have another source of income. Many of the individuals we serve attend day programs or supported employment during the day, which works well with a typical work schedule. ### What about time off and respite care? Relief days are provided monthly as part of your arrangement. Respite care is available for vacations, illness, appointments, or any time you need a break. We coordinate respite providers so you always have coverage when you need it. ### Do I need prior experience? No prior experience is required. We provide all the training you need, including orientation, First Aid and CPR, and individual-specific care training. What matters most is your willingness to open your home with compassion. ### What if the placement isn't working out? We conduct monthly check-ins to make sure both you and the individual are happy. If a placement needs to change, we work collaboratively to ensure a smooth, supportive transition. There is no penalty. The wellbeing of everyone involved is always the priority. :: ::page[route="/contact" title="Contact"] # Contact Us We'd love to hear from you!
